Abhyanga is an energy balancing and detoxifying massage aimed at bringing the doshas of the body into balance. Medicated oils appropriate to your specific Ayurvedic constitution will be used with massage strokes focused on purification of the lymphatic system. Immediate effects are often improved sleep and digestion, and deep relaxation. Long terms effects include deep detoxification and regulation of body system.
Shirodhara is a relaxation therapy where warm oil is streamed over the forehead for a period of time. It is deeply soothing and highly recommended in tandem with Abhyanga. While appropriate as a general relaxation therapy for everyone, it is especially helpful in the treatment of anxiety, depression, fear, and nervousness.
Similar to Acupuncture, it’s better known descendent, Marma therapy involves the stimulation of sensitive points to promote healing in the physical, mental, and energetic planes by affecting the flow of prana. Marma points can be found all over the body from the hands and feet to the trunk and head, and when manipulated via massage, pranic healing, oil and herb application, heat, or pressure, can alter both the organic functions and structural conditions of the body. There are 107 points and specific points and therapeutic techniques are chosen based on a client’s specific needs. Read more about Marma Therapy here.
While harnessing prana, the life force, healing is accomplished through the placing of hands on or above various points on the body. Pranic healing can be used to balance the overall energy of the body, balance the chakras or a specific chakra, or bring healing to a certain area of the body. It is similar to Reiki.
